When it comes to globetrotting, hydration isn’t always top of mind. It starts with the flight, the dry cabin air seems to suck moisture out of you and those petite cups of water, while helpful, aren’t sufficient. Lugging a 1 litre water bottle around town isn’t a girl’s definition of travel chic. Here are 3 ways for you to stay hydrated while quenching your wanderlust.
1. Add chia seeds to your beverage
This nutrient-dense seeds native to Mexico has become a popular superfood in health communities everywhere. They’re rich in fibre, protein, omega-3 fats, vitamins (A, B, E & D) and minerals (calcium, potassium and magnesium). They also have the ability to absorb 9 to 12 times their weight in water so they are great at retaining hydration. Soak them and add them to your beverage or have them in one of our favourite juices – Citrus Chia!
2. Go for the juicy ones
Eat fruits with high water content like berries, pineapple, cucumbers and watermelon contain a high percentage of water. Eating a water rich breakfast of oatmeal and fruit will help you hydrate before takeoff.
3. Reach for potassium-rich foods
Potassium helps to maintain proper fluid balance in your body and balance the sodium in our system. Potassium-rich foods like avocado, bananas, spinach and coconut water can help you walk long stretches without reaching for your water bottle every few minutes.
